ALL G. M. DAY AT VREDENHEIM – SUNDAY 26 OCTOBER 2008
To all owners and drivers of G.M. Vehicles
Thank you all most sincerely for participating in this special event to celebrate 100 years of General Motors.
It was a stunning, sunny, wind-less Cape day, set against the back-drop of the magnificent Helderberg mountains in the background. It does not get any better than that!
The cars on show were superb –
From early Chev’s and Buick’s, to the timeless GM models of the late 40’s.
Great Chevs, Oldsmobiles,Pontiacs, Buicks and Opel's of the 50’s a decade of innovative style. The array of 58’s were stunning, celebrating their golden anniversary. And then the more modern and eye-catching Cadillac, Buicks, Chevy’s and awesome Corvettes, Comaro’s, Firebird’s, Transam’s to the very latest Chevy Lumina’s. This was real ‘eye candy’ for all GM fans. And last but not least the great pre-war Chevy Ldv’s and the 1959 Chev 3 ton truck – still in daily use we believe. The “bowtie” emblem was the most popular, with some very rare models on display. And so I could go on.
Special General Motors T-Shirts were handed out to the owners of GM vehicles attending. The attendance at the show was so good that sadly the stock of 80 was soon depleted. We regret that many who arrived later did not receive a T shirt.
We also had commemorative bottles of wine, glasses and T - shirts on sale celebrating the golden anniversary of the 1958 Buick.
So many thank - you's are due to so many.
Firstly to all who attended – a very big thank you. Without you, there would not have been a show. Many travelled great distances in their cars to get there- from Oudtshoorn, George, Moorreesburg, Saldanha Bay, Cape Town, Pretoria, Johannesburg and elsewhere in the Republic. It takes a lot of effort, planning and dedication to participate in events like this, not to mention the cost and risks of mechanical failure. Your participation and support is much appreciated.
Special thanks to members of the Crankhandle, Early Ford and V8 Club’ s for your participation and those of the Crankhandle Club who came along specially after their monthly meeting. Special thanks to our modest friend Leonard. Thank you for mustering such excellent support from the Western Cape car club members. Leonard is so much part of the “old car” scene and participates in so many rallies and events – not least of which our annual Buick Club gathering in the Western Cape. The support you garnered made the event a spectacular success.
Yes, unfortunately there were a few glitches, for which we tender our humble apologies. One lives and learns every day. But let’s go with the positive. It was a spectacular day We as ”old car” owners always enjoy showing our great cars, sharing them with other motoring enthusiasts, getting them out onto the road with our families and perhaps most important of all, meeting good friends and making new ones..
Last but not least, a huge thank you to John Smith, Ronnie Lehman and families for organizing the week-end’s events- from the great Buick tour on Saturday to the spectacular all GM show on Sunday. It takes a lot of time and effort- not to mention cost. You handled it superbly and we thank you. Special thanks also to Alex Duffey, George Shipway and other members of the Buick Club of South Africa for your support and attending the events. Some brought as many as 3 cars. Thank you en baie, baie dankie vir julle ondersteuning.
Kindest regards and many thanks for your participation. May you all continue to enjoy your special cars and always go in safety.
